I trained to be a Chartered Clinical Psychologist in the early 1990s and worked within the NHS for 10 years before deciding to set up my own practice. I have children of my own, so I am acutely aware of the ups and downs of family life and the stresses and challenges children can face on a daily basis. I have a calm, comfortable therapy room at the Complementary Health Partnership and I am supported by welcoming and caring reception staff – families can be confident that they will be put at ease and looked after well.
My experience and training enable me to connect quickly with children, young people and their parents and offer effective therapeutic strategies. Everyone’s story is different, and a big part of my work is listening and being curious about yours. If I can understand a little about how a child sees their world, I can often suggest what might be most helpful to them, either in terms of what they can learn to do, or how the adults around them could respond differently. I have the benefit of up to date information on resilience, trauma and family relationships from other areas of my work outside the clinic, and I have a special interest in anxiety and the creative ways that a child’s imagination can be encouraged to fight it. I find my work endlessly fascinating and enjoy seeing and hearing about the progress that my clients make.
